At Chateau St. Jean, we have a long tradition of producing Sonoma County Riesling. Our 1974 Riesling was the first Chateau St. Jean wine to win critical acclaim and bring recognition to the winery. The grapes for the 2013 Riesling were selected from a site that bears fruit of exceptional quality and true varietal character; the Belle Terre vineyard in Alexander Valley. This lovely Riesling is gently restrained to stay on the drier style of the varietal. Tropical fruit aromas of papaya, pineapple and mango along with fragrant floral notes offer a heady invitation to the wine. The palate lightens to softer honey, peach cobbler, orange blossom and lime flavors. The mouthfeel is lush and rich, but with enough vibrant acidity to keep the wine balanced and well-structured.

Production Notes

After a brief soaking on the skins, the juice was fermented at very low temperatures, in small batches, for just over one month in temperatureĀ controlled stainless steel vessels. This retains natural acidity and fruitĀ forward varietal character. The wine has beautiful fragrant aromatics, good palate weight and zesty acidity.
