2011 Chateau St. Jean Fume BlancLa Petite Etoile Vineyard
Inviting aromas of lemon-lime citrus, ripe cantaloupe melon, and notes of fresh green tea leaves open the wine. The nose leads to an expressive palate with flavors of green apple, kiwi fruit and subtle notes of spice. The rich, full mouthfeel is well-balanced with refreshing acidity and a pleasant finish.
The grapes come from the 44-acre La Petite Etoile vineyard near Windsor. Classic winemaking techniques were used in crafting this Fumé Blanc. The majority (70%) of the Sauvignon Blanc was barrel-fermented, with the remainder fermented in stainless steel tanks to retain the fresh fruit characters unique to the Russian River Valley. The barrel portion was aged for eight months in small French oak barrels (43% new) adding complexity and creaminess to the wine. The wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation.
Chateau St. Jean has a long history crafting single vineyard wines and we have been making this Fumé Blanc from our La Petite Etoile Vineyard since 1979. The La Petite Etoile vineyard produces classic Sauvignon Blanc with expressive fruit flavors and bright acidity.
